Best apps for Spanish pronunciation in 2026

There is no single best app; it depends on what you need. For the language itself, Duolingo is free and Babbel, Pimsleur and Rosetta Stone are paid courses that check your speech with speech recognition; for AI conversation that scores you, Praktika gives a score per word, Talkpal a score per sentence and Langua a score for suggested replies on the web. For a human ear, Speechling’s coaches answer your recordings within 24 hours (up to 10 free sessions a month for Spanish) and italki tutors correct you live, while TonePerfect’s free browser test scores every sound you say with no signup.

Facts checked · Sources

Almost every language app teaches Spanish, and almost none of them tell you how you sound. This roundup judges each tool on one narrow question — does it help you fix your pronunciation — so a great app can score poorly here and still be exactly what you need for everything else. TonePerfect wrote this page and is one of the apps listed.

Worauf wir geachtet haben

  • Does it listen to you, or only play audio at you?
  • Is the feedback about individual sounds, or just whether the word was recognized?
  • Does it point you at what to work on next?
  • How much works for free, and what does paying add?
  • Is it a complete course or a specialist tool to use alongside one?

Duolingo

Building a daily habit and a starting vocabulary

A gamified course whose App Store listing says every course is free, with a paid Super tier. The Spanish course has speaking exercises in which you repeat words or say answers out loud, and speech recognition decides whether the answer counts as correct. That tells you whether you were understood, not which sound slipped. Use it for vocabulary and a daily habit, not as an accent trainer.

Babbel

A structured path through beginner and intermediate Spanish

A subscription course in 14 languages; the first lesson of every course is free. Its speech recognition “analyses your pronunciation and provides feedback based on how closely it matches the target language”, and an answer can be marked incorrect — feedback on the phrase, not on the sounds inside it. You can choose Latin American or Spain Spanish. On iOS, Android and the web.

TonePerfect vs. Babbel →

Pimsleur

Hands-free listen-and-repeat that trains your mouth

Audio lessons focused on vocabulary, pronunciation and speaking, built on hearing a word or phrase and being asked to recall it from memory; the mobile app has a hands-free driving mode. Its Voice Coach “uses AI voice recognition”, and Pimsleur says it gives AI feedback “in most languages” without listing which; where it cannot, you record yourself and compare with the native speaker. Its App Store listing adds an AI Conversation Coach (beta) with feedback on pronunciation and grammar for All Access learners of Latin American Spanish. There is no free plan: a 7-day free trial, and its App Store listing offers a complimentary lesson. On iOS, Android and the web.

Rosetta Stone

A full course with instant speech checks

A course in 25 languages, Spanish included, on iOS, Android and the web. Its TruAccent speech recognition, its App Store listing says, “compares your voice to data from millions of native speakers”, and you get immediate feedback and chances to retry each word. No score per sound is documented. A 7-day free trial, then a subscription.

Speak

Speaking practice through AI conversations

An AI tutor app built around speaking out loud, with a Spanish course for English speakers. Its App Store listing says the AI assesses your pronunciation, intonation and fluency; its phoneme-by-phoneme Pronunciation Coach is only for people learning English, so in Spanish no sound-by-sound feedback is documented. A 7-day free trial (no free plan), on iOS and Android; its help centre says it is not available on desktop.

Praktika

AI conversations with a score for each word

An AI tutor you hold conversations with, in 14 language options including Spanish. Tap “?” on your own message and you get “an overall and per-word score considering your pronunciation, fluency, completeness and rhythm”, so you know which word to repeat, though not which sound inside it. Free to download with in-app purchases; what stays free is not stated. On iOS and Android.

Langua

AI conversation with a pronunciation score in Spanish

An AI conversation partner with Spanish among more than 20 languages. On the web version, for Spanish, French and English learners, you can say a suggested reply aloud and “receive a score on your pronunciation”; how finely it scores is not documented, and Langua itself says the technology is “not 100% accurate”. The free plan includes 3 minutes of calls a day and about 20 chat messages a week.

Talkpal

Free daily AI conversation with a sentence score

AI conversation practice in more than 130 languages, Spanish included, on the web, iOS and Android. In Sentence Mode “your performance is rated on a scale of up to 100”, with scores for pronunciation, accuracy, fluency and completeness; Talkpal says the mode is available for selected languages without listing them. The free Basic plan has a 10-minute daily limit and includes the pronunciation assessment tool.

Speechling

Human feedback on recordings without booking a lesson

You listen to a native speaker, record yourself, and a certified pronunciation coach sends feedback within 24 hours. It sits between an app and a tutor: slower than instant scoring, but a human ear catches things software misses. The free plan has the whole curriculum and up to 10 coaching sessions a month for Spanish. On iOS, Android and the web; paid plans from $19.99 a month.

italki

A person telling you what you actually sound like

A marketplace for paid one-on-one video lessons with Spanish tutors. A teacher hears everything at once — sounds, rhythm, intonation — names the problem and shows you the fix, which no app does. italki puts Spanish tutors at $4 to $60 an hour. Lessons are not free, but tutors offer discounted trial lessons. The most effective option here, and the most expensive per hour.

Forvo

Checking how one specific word is really said

A pronunciation dictionary that calls itself the largest in the world: nearly 6 million words recorded by native speakers in over 430 languages, Spanish included, often with several speakers for the same word, so you hear what varies. Signing up is free; the iOS and Android apps cost $2.99. It does not teach or score anything — it is the reference you reach for when you are unsure how one word is said.

TonePerfect

Das sind wir

Finding which Spanish sounds score lowest for you and drilling those

You record a Spanish word or sentence and it scores every sound, then ranks your sounds weakest-first so you know where to start. For Spanish it aligns each sound back to the spelling, so you can see which letters produced which sound — a silent h, a güe, a c that came out as an s — and where one word ran into the next. It does not take sides between Castilian and Latin American pronunciation, and it does not judge whether your r was a tap or a full roll. The free pronunciation test and accent test run in the browser with no signup, and the iOS, Android and web app adds daily practice, with a free tier with daily limits and a Premium subscription; it covers eight languages. The limits, plainly: it teaches no grammar or vocabulary and is not a conversation partner; it returns scores, not a transcript, and does not say which sound you made instead; it does not score intonation; and the scores are built for comparing your own sounds, not for certification or a CEFR level.

Das Ergebnis

There is no single app that covers Spanish pronunciation from start to finish, and any list that crowns one winner is selling you something. A realistic setup is a course for vocabulary and grammar (Duolingo free, or Babbel, Pimsleur or Rosetta Stone), conversation practice (Speak, Praktika, Langua or Talkpal, or a tutor on italki), and something that listens to the sounds themselves. Speechling gives you a human ear for free, and TonePerfect scores every sound in what you say — and it will not teach you a single verb conjugation. If you add one thing to what you already use, make it something that listens — reading about the rolled r has never once produced a rolled r.

Fragen

What is the best app for Spanish pronunciation?+

It depends on the feedback you want. Duolingo, Babbel, Pimsleur and Rosetta Stone check your speech with speech recognition; Praktika scores each word you say in a conversation, Talkpal scores each sentence and Langua scores suggested replies on its web version. Speechling and italki give you a human listener, and TonePerfect scores every individual sound. Speak’s per-sound Pronunciation Coach is only for learners of English.

How do I roll my R in Spanish?+

Start from the tap you already have: the tt in the American pronunciation of ‘water’ or ‘butter’ is a single flick of the tongue tip against the ridge behind your upper teeth, which is the short r of pero. The long roll of perro is that same contact repeated by the airflow, not by muscle, so relax the tongue and let the air flutter it instead of forcing it. Drill pero and perro side by side; our guide on how to roll your Rs in Spanish has three ways in. TonePerfect scores the r in each word but accepts a tap or a roll, so to hear whether you really rolled it, ask a tutor or a Speechling coach.

Why do my Spanish vowels still sound English?+

Spanish has five vowel sounds, a, e, i, o and u, and each one is a single fixed position. English vowels glide during the sound and collapse into a neutral ‘uh’ when unstressed, and those two habits are what make Spanish sound English. Hold each vowel still and say unstressed vowels as fully as stressed ones.

Is there a free app for Spanish pronunciation?+

Several. Duolingo’s Spanish course is free; Speechling’s free plan includes up to 10 coaching sessions a month for Spanish; Talkpal’s free Basic plan gives 10 minutes a day including its pronunciation assessment; Forvo is free with an account; and TonePerfect’s Spanish pronunciation test and accent test run free in the browser with no signup. Pimsleur, Rosetta Stone and Speak offer 7-day free trials rather than free plans.

Which apps score Spanish pronunciation word by word or sound by sound?+

Praktika gives an overall and a per-word score for each message you say. TonePerfect scores every sound in every word. Talkpal’s Sentence Mode and Langua’s web pronunciation score rate what you said as a whole, and Duolingo, Babbel and Rosetta Stone use speech recognition without a documented per-sound score.

How were these apps checked?+

Every fact about another app on this page comes from a page listed under Sources — mostly the app’s own website, help centre, blog or US App Store listing — opened on 21 October 2026. Where a source does not say something, the table says “Not stated” instead of guessing, so an app may do more than its row says. TonePerfect wrote this page and is one of the apps listed.
