How does the Chinese pronunciation tool score my speech?

You read a short prompt aloud and the AI compares your recording against native speech, syllable by syllable. Every syllable is broken into three parts — the initial, the final and the tone — and each is scored separately, so you see whether "shì" failed because of the sh-, the -i or the fourth tone.

What does the test actually measure?

Tone accuracy, initial and final clarity, and overall intelligibility, rolled into a level estimate. You get a per-syllable breakdown with a tone-contour graph showing the pitch you produced against the target contour, rather than a single pass/fail.

Can it check Mandarin tones specifically?

Yes — tones are scored separately from the consonants and vowels, which is the point. Most learners lose more intelligibility to tones than to segments, and a combined score hides that. You can also drill individual sounds on the pinyin chart afterwards.
