Common mistake
Xùn is not "shun": x is made with the tongue tip down, and the vowel is ü, "ee" with rounded lips.
Tencent in Mandarin: what to get right
腾 is the last character of co-founder Ma Huateng’s name (马化腾) and means "to soar"; 讯 means "message" or "news". The company behind WeChat and QQ was founded in Shenzhen in 1998, and in Chinese it is only ever 腾讯.
How English speakers usually say it
Learners who know the English name say "teng-shun" or "teng-zun". The e in téng is not the "e" of "ten": it is closer to the "u" in "hung". And xùn has the rounded ü vowel, which English doesn’t have.
How to say 腾讯 tone by tone
Téng: aspirated t (with a puff of air), "tung", rising. Xùn: tongue tip behind the lower teeth for x, then say "een" with your lips rounded as for "oo" — that is ün — with a sharp fall from high. Rising then falling: the second syllable should start higher than the first one ended.
