The search engine founded by Robin Li (李彦宏) in 2000 took its name from a line by the Song-dynasty poet Xin Qiji: 众里寻他千百度, "in the crowd I searched for her a thousand, a hundred times". 百度 is "a hundred times", searching again and again.
